May the Force of Chanukah Be With Us as We Battle Climate Change, Ignorance and Greed

Today, having recently watched the new Star Wars film, my wonderful SIL, Robert Geraci (on right), wrote a post for his blog, entitled “Chanukah, Climate Change, and Star Wars” https://robertgeraci.com/2019/12/25/chanukah-climate-change-and-star-wars/ . It moved me, and here’s the how and why; First of all, I am personally consumed by climate change, and what more it will do to life on earth, so I am uplifted seeing anyone communicate thoughtfully, particularly publicly, about the subject. Next, I was, and am intrigued by the title, linking Chanukah, climate change, and Star Wars. I am a yuge fan of intersectionality and creativity, and could see them coming! Robert believes that ”Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” may help folks talk to one another about climate change. He shares that the film “speaks to the power of people in our shared hopes, dreams, and future. In the end, it is not a solitary Skywalker who can defeat evil, but the assembly of people from all acro

Carbon Pricing and Tips to Deal with Climate Change

Most people feel frustrated, and are unaware of what can be done globally and individually to reverse climate change. Following are a couple of thoughts for consideration.    Most climate scientist agree that in order to have a real effect on climate change, we MUST change the way we deal with fossil fuels. The fossil fuel industry will not give up the way they produce energy because they are making a lot of money. We, the consumers, keep using fossil fuel because it is the cheapest form of energy.    Solution? What is referred to as a "carbon tax". A carbon tax is actually a fee. A cost is set for a particular company yearly, based on fossil fuel production, distribution, and pollution emitted. Making fossil fuel more expensive by reflecting what it really costs our world, will I believe, get the attention of the citizenry as paying more for energy will not be welcomed. But, if we have ways to counter global warming, like investing in efficiency and cleaner alternativ

Reducing Plastic In Our Homes

First off, I want to thank Kris for bringing our family together to talk about Climate Change. It is easy to feel overwhelmed, helpless and lost. It is easy to complain and fret and to forget that actually there are things we can all do, right now that will make a difference. I appreciate how Kris is constantly thinking about this and really doing things. He doesn't sitting idly watching while the Earth is pleading with the humans to get up and do something.  Reducing Our Plastic Consumption: I have recently been thinking more about what can I do in my life to reduce the amount of plastic we use as a family. I am lucky to be married to Ken, Kris's son, who thinks a ton about the environment and pushes to reduce our plastic consumption. His conscientiousness about the environment really shapes our home. I am also part of a really unbelievably strong, intelligent group of moms on a Slack channel whose collective wisdom I find inspiring and motivating. When Kris asked

Your Family Got Climate?

Let's break it down: #ClimateChange ; you know what that is, but if you are not actively informing yourself, you may not realize how serious, how threatening, and how immediate it is. Response ; a reaction to something, in this case, hopefully, a thoughtful and effective reaction that can include coming together in groups and ultimately in extremely large numbers to reverse #ClimateChange. Families ; groups of people, directly related or not. #ClimateChange is growing like a cancer. We either acknowledge the severity and proximity of this threat, acknowledge its causes, and come together, unified, in huge numbers, or this process will make our #biosphere uninhabitable for the children of the world. Where to start? How 'bout we come together as families to discuss the situation that we are all in, and at the very least, discuss the fate of our children, and all children. My immediate family and I are doing just that! We met first on February 17, 2018, and then toda
